Comilla and Chittagong University admission tests set for same day

Comilla University and the University of Chittagong have set two admission tests for the same day. The issue involves Unit B at Comilla University and Unit D at the University of Chittagong.

A Comilla University notice published on Thursday, September 24, says the Unit B test will start at 3:00 pm on February 6. Unit B covers Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Law.

The Comilla University test will take place in Comilla, Chattogram and Rajshahi. The university has not yet said if the test time or centres will change.

The University of Chittagong published its admission test notice on August 23. It says the Unit D test under the Faculty of Social Sciences will also take place on February 6.

The University of Chittagong test will be held in Chattogram, Dhaka, and Rajshahi. In Chattogram, the test will take place on the university campus. In Dhaka and Rajshahi, it will be held on the campuses of the two public universities.

The B1, B2 and B2 sub-units will be held only at the University of Chittagong campus.

The same-day plan has raised concern among students who want to sit for both tests. Some students may need to travel between cities to take both exams.

Farzana Anti, an admission-seeking student from Dhaka, said she plans to take the University of Chittagong test at the University of Dhaka campus. But Comilla University does not have a test centre there.

She said this creates a problem because both tests are set for the same day. She asked how she could travel to Comilla and take the Comilla University test.

University of Chittagong Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mohammad Al Amin said he was not aware of the issue. He said no one from Comilla University had raised the matter with him.

Al Amin also asked whether the two universities could hold their tests on the same day. He said he was looking into the issue.

Comilla University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Amzad Hossain Sarker gave a different view. He said the University of Chittagong test would start at 11:00 am. The Comilla University test would start at 3:00 pm.

He said students could take the Comilla University test after sitting for the other test.

Md Nurul Karim Chowdhury is a central member of the admission test committee. He is also the university's Controller of Examinations.

Chowdhury said the committee had taken the issue into account. He said the committee held its first meeting on the matter on Thursday.

He said five months were still left before the tests. The test time and centres could change later, he added.

Chowdhury also said the test time was changed before the examination last year.

For now, the published schedules put both admission tests on February 6. Students will need to check further notices from both universities for any change.
