HSC Retake Exam Plan Announced, SSC Changes Expected in 2027
Students who fail HSC subjects may get another chance soon. A similar plan for SSC students could begin in 2027.
Students who failed one or more subjects in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations may get another chance within two months. Education authorities in Bangladesh are planning to introduce supplementary examinations for these candidates.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, confirmed the plan on Monday. He shared the information with The Daily Campus.
Akhtaruzzaman also heads the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
Supplementary Exams for HSC Students
The proposed supplementary examination system aims to help students who fail one or more subjects. It would allow eligible candidates to retake their examinations without waiting another full year.
Professor Akhtaruzzaman said education authorities had discussed measures to reduce student dropout rates. The discussions focused on helping unsuccessful candidates continue their education.

He also said the government had responded positively to the proposed system.
However, the exact examination dates and detailed procedures were not provided in the available information.
SSC Supplementary Exams Planned for 2027
The new system could also cover Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations from 2027.
According to Akhtaruzzaman, authorities have already made a decision regarding this year's HSC examination. They will assess its effectiveness before considering the same system for SSC candidates next year.
The government has also shown a positive response to the proposed supplementary examination system.
Education officials discussed ways to prevent students from dropping out after failing examinations. The meeting also examined possible measures to help affected candidates continue their education.
Government Considers Earlier Retake Opportunities
Earlier, Prime Minister's Education Adviser Mahdi Amin discussed the proposal at an event on Saturday.
The event took place at the China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Amin, also spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, said the government was considering an earlier retake opportunity.
Under the proposal, unsuccessful SSC and HSC candidates could retake examinations within three months. This would reduce the current one-year waiting period.
The authorities are now planning the HSC supplementary examination initiative, while its possible extension to SSC candidates remains under consideration.
