School Admission Tests 2027: High Court Hearing May Be Today
A petition seeks to cancel school admission tests for the 2027 academic year, following changes to the lottery-based admission system.
The High Court may hear a writ petition today, Wednesday (October 14), seeking to cancel school admission tests across Bangladesh. The petition challenges the introduction of admission tests for the 2027 academic year.
The petition appears at serial number 29 on today's High Court cause list. The bench comprises Justice S. M. Moniruzzaman and Justice S. M. Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud.
Writ Petition Filed on October 7
Minhaz Uddin Ahmed filed the writ petition with the High Court on October 7. He is the executive director of the Movement for Human Rights and Good Governance Foundation.
The petition seeks to cancel school admission tests nationwide for the 2027 academic year.

The other respondents are the Director General of Secondary and Higher Education and a Deputy Secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).
Government Decision on School Admission Tests
Following the filing, petitioner's lawyer Zahid Talukdar explained the background of the case.
He said the previous government introduced a digital lottery system for the 2021 academic year. The system replaced admission examinations for Classes One through Nine at government schools.
However, the current BNP government later decided to end the lottery-based admission process and introduce admission tests.
Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the decision at a press conference on March 16.
The Ministry of Education also issued a notification that day, announcing the cancellation of the lottery system.
Revised Admission Rules for Classes One to Nine
The government later issued a revised notification outlining the new admission rules.
Under the revised decision, schools will conduct admission tests for Classes Two through Nine. However, admission to Class One will continue through a lottery system.
The changes affect the admission process for students seeking places in these classes.
The writ petition challenges the decision to introduce admission tests from the 2027 academic year.
The matter is listed for a possible hearing before the High Court on Wednesday. The court has yet to issue a decision on the petition, according to the information available.
