Dhaka Central University Students Reject New VC, Raise 8 Demands

Students of Dhaka Central University have rejected the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lutfor Rahman. They have also placed eight demands over the university’s academic and administrative matters.

The demands were announced at a press conference at Dhaka College on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The press conference came after the students ended their sit-in at Science Lab.

The students said they do not oppose the government’s right to appoint a VC. But they asked whether the new VC was appointed after considering their views.

They said their exams are taking place while academic migration remains uncertain. They also said delays in their academic year are preventing them from taking major job exams.

The students also raised questions about appointing a VC from Dhaka University. They said they had faced oppression and violence there during their earlier student movement.

“We created Central University by showing a red card to Dhaka University,” they said. They questioned why a VC should come from an institution where they said they had faced such treatment.

The students then set out eight demands. They said the new VC’s statement must be accepted.

They want academic migration to be completed within the next two working days. They also want the final exam dates for the 2021-22 and 2024-25 academic sessions announced within four working days.

The students want the form-fill-up process to be completed within three working days. They also want exam results to be published within 45 days after the examinations.

Another demand is to open a Central University office on any one of the seven college campuses. They also want the word “affiliated” removed from university use.

They said the term “affiliation” must not be used in any university document. They also want an academic system based on eight semesters.

The students further said they will not accept any administrative decision taken by Dhaka University at Central University.

The students were also asked about Professor Salma, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Central University. She came from Dhaka University.

In response, the students said Professor Salma is student-friendly. They said she stood by them during the July Movement.

The students said their demands seek to end delays in academic work. They want set dates for migration, examinations, form fill-up and results.

They also want Central University to have its own academic and administrative system. The next step will depend on the response from the authorities to their demands.
