National University 2nd Convocation Set for January 23

The second convocation of National University will be held on January 23, 2027. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah confirmed the date on social media on September 20, 2026.

President and Chancellor of National University Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has agreed to attend the event, according to the vice-chancellor. The announcement came after a meeting between the vice-chancellor and the president at Bangabhaban on Sunday.

During the meeting, Professor Amanullah briefed the president on the university’s education, research and academic activities. He also discussed steps taken in academic and administrative areas during the past two years.

The second convocation was also discussed during the meeting. The university has been preparing to hold the event after a long gap since its first convocation in 2017.

National University began its journey in 1992. Its first convocation was held on January 17, 2017, about 25 years after the university was established. The event was held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.

The university has not held another convocation since then. Over the years, graduates have repeatedly called for regular convocations. The long gap has also been linked to difficulties faced by graduates in completing formalities related to their academic certificates.

Details about which graduating batches will be allowed to join the second convocation have not yet been announced. Information about registration, the number of graduates who can participate and the venue is also expected to be announced later.

The university administration is expected to continue preparations for the event. Further details will be provided after the participation rules and other arrangements are finalised.
