Honours 3rd Year Exam: 288 Students Face Penalties for Misconduct

National University has punished 288 students for cheating and other exam rule breaks. The action was taken during the Honours 3rd Year Exam.

The university has officially announced this information in a notice on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The university said 216 students will have their exams cancelled for that year. They will not face a ban on all National University exams.

Of the 72 students facing longer bans, 55 cannot take any National University exam for one year. Another 14 students cannot take such exams for three years.

Three students have been barred from taking National University exams for four years. The bans were imposed based on the nature of the reported offences.

The decisions came after a review by the Examination Discipline Committee. The committee checked answer papers, replies to notices and other proof of cheating.

The cases began with reports from exam centre officers, examiners and invigilators. Their reports were reviewed along with the related answer papers and other evidence.

The cases then went to the Examination Discipline Committee. It set the punishment for each student after reviewing the available evidence.

The university said the action followed its Examination Regulations. The notice covers students accused of cheating and other unfair means.

It also covers students who broke discipline during the 2024 third-year Honours exams. The cases involved students from colleges across the country.

For most of the 288 students, the penalty is linked only to the exams in question. For 72 students, the penalty also affects future National University exams.

The bans range from one year to four years. The university has published the decisions through its notice.

The affected students will have to follow the exam limits set in the decision.
