Honours 4th Year Result: Results Show ‘Fail’ in Improvement Exam

The National University’s Honours 4th Year results have raised questions after some students were shown as failed in subjects they had passed earlier. The students say the issue was found in several cases, including students from the Physics Department.

The university published the Honours 4th Year results on Monday, August 31. A total of 232,624 candidates from 881 colleges took part in the examinations across 31 subjects. The overall pass rate was 65.10 percent.

After the results were published, one Physics Department student found an issue with the subject Statistical Mechanics (Code: 242711). The student had received a C+ grade in the subject in the 2023 examination.

The student later took an improvement examination in the same subject in 2024. However, the newly published result shows an ‘F’ grade for the subject.

A similar case was reported involving another student from the same department. The student had received a D grade in Solid State Physics-2 (Code: 242703) in the 2023 examination.

The student also took an improvement examination in the subject in 2024. But the result published on August 31 shows an ‘F’ grade for the same subject.

The concerned students say the results need to be reviewed. They have questioned how a student who had already passed a subject could receive an ‘F’ after taking an improvement examination.

According to the students, university rules provide that the earlier result should remain valid if a student receives a lower grade or fails in an improvement examination. Based on this understanding, they have raised questions about the appearance of the ‘F’ grades in the latest results.

The students have also asked the National University to recheck their 2023 results and the 2024 improvement examination results. They want corrections if any technical or factual errors occurred during the preparation or publication of the results.

The issue is important for affected students because the published grades can have a direct impact on their academic records. A review of the results could help determine whether the reported ‘F’ grades are correct or resulted from an error.

Meanwhile, the National University has stated that the university authorities reserve the right to correct any inconsistencies or errors found in the published results. The university also reserves the right to cancel results entirely, according to the information provided.
