Lutfur Rahman Appointed Dhaka Central University VC

Professor Md. Lutfur Rahman has been named the new Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University (DCU).

Rahman is now the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the National University. The Ministry of Education issued a notice on Saturday, September 26.

Md. Sultan Ahmed signed the notice. He is an Assistant Secretary in the ministry’s higher education wing.

The notice said Rahman was named under Section 11(1) of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2026. He will serve for four years from the day he joins.

If he reaches the age of retirement before four years, his term will end then. He will get the same pay and benefits as in his current post.

He will also get other benefits under the rules. As the chief officer of the university, he must stay on the campus full-time.

The notice sets out his terms. The President and Chancellor may end his term at any time if needed.

Rahman worked as a teacher. He was in the Statistics Department at the University of Dhaka.

He most recently served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the National University. The new appointment follows a change at the university.

Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam was earlier removed from the post of Vice-Chancellor. Nurul Islam was later named Vice-Chancellor.

He was appointed to lead Jahangirnagar University. Rahman will take charge of Dhaka Central University after he joins.
